SADTU Teachers at Work, with logo, smaller.png 27 July 2016 SADTU to celebrate Mandela Month at Myekeni Secondary School in KwaZulu Natal As part of celebrating Mandela's legacy, the South African Democratic Teachers' Union (SADTU) will, together with its investment company SIHOLD, roll out its national activity at Myekeni Secondary School in Phongola in the province of KwaZulu-Natal on Friday, 29 July, 2016. In line with Mandela Day activities which should consistently focus on the realization or restoration of dignity and empowerment, staff from SADTU's and SIHOLD's national offices will paint Myekeni Secondary School's classrooms, fix the leaking roofs, replace broken windows, and hand out jerseys and socks to the learners. The Union has also procured the services of a professional electrician to do cabling so that the school can have electricity. Myekeni Secondary School is a rural no-fee paying school that has 271 learners and nine teachers. The school starts from Grade 8 to Grade 11. The majority of learners are from poor families who struggle to buy them school uniforms, medication and sometimes food. The media are welcome to attend and cover the event. .
