Morning Star.png Government Reopens Abandoned Factory The Morning Star, London, 12 August 2016 Venezuelan Labour Minister Oswaldo Vera announced on Wednesday that the government has taken over another shut-down manufacturing firm. He said the Guardian de Venezuela laminated glass plant in Monagas state would be occupied and put back into operation. The government acted as soon as it heard of the firm abandoning production and sacking hundreds of workers, Mr Vera told reporters at the plant. Boycott and sabotage He accused the company of "boycott and sabotage," saying: "What the workers produced, they sold at a very low price abroad." As well as selling produce abroad, Guardian also sourced most of its raw material from outside the state meaning the local economy benefited little from the company. Last month, the United Socialist Party government took similar steps against US hygiene products giant Kimberly Clark, which had shut down operations at its Maracay plant. The government accuses national and transnational firms of waging an economic war against Venezuela under the pretext of the national economic crisis caused by the world slump in oil prices.
