Eyewitness News 3.png ANC Retains Rustenburg Local Municipality The ANC's Mpho Khunou has been re-elected mayor and Sheila Mabale-Huma has been elected speaker Thando Kubheka, Eye Witness News, Johannesburg, 19 August 2016 The African National Congress's (ANC) Mpho Khunou has been re-elected mayor of the Rustenburg Local Municipality, situated on South Africa's platinum belt. The ANC clinched 46 votes while the Forum for Service Delivery's (FSD) mayoral candidate received 43 votes. The FSD is now the official opposition. Khunou's fellow party member Sheila Mabale-Huma has been elected the speaker for the municipality. Earlier, the first council sitting in Rustenburg was delayed by an apparent altercation between ANC and Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) members outside the venue. Police were deployed to the meeting to monitor developments and to restore calm.
