ANCWL Statement, 23 October 2016

Cabinet Decision to Withdraw from International Criminal Court

The African National Congress Women's League (ANCWL) welcomes the decision
by the cabinet to withdraw from the ICC. The ANCWL hopes that the opposition
political parties in Parliament who believes in African solution for African
problems will support the decision of cabinet to withdraw from International
Criminal Court (ICC).

The ANCWL unwaveringly supports the protection and promotion of human rights
in South Africa and beyond its borders. It is a known fact that most of the
victims of these heinous crimes are women and children. Any alleged
perpetrators of these barbaric crimes must be prosecuted; however the ANCWL
does not support biased, imperialist influenced process of prosecuting the
alleged perpetrators of these crimes. It is ANCWL's view that the manner in
which ICC is conducting its business has been skewed towards targeting
mostly African leaders.

Is not surprising that Democratic Alliance (DA) has decided to take cabinet
decision to court as for them the full independence of African States is not
of paramount importance. Their agenda is to promote white supremacy where
blacks are relegated to be the servants of white masters. They use black
faces as leaders of their party and their coalition led municipalities and
these leaders are instructed from somewhere in the Western Cape. Their
interest is to advance imperialists agenda and therefore for them to support
ICC which is influenced by Western forces is not surprising.

The ANCWL calls African Union (AU) to persuade African countries who are
members of ICC to also pull out and establish an African Criminal Court
(ACC). The ACC must be an independent and objective prosecution body to
crimes against humanity and the violation of human rights. It must also have
powers to investigate and prosecute crimes committed by colonialist during
their forced ruling of African States. The prosecution must also target
those who have benefited from crimes against humanity (Apartheid) in South
Africa as they are the beneficiaries of criminal activities against
humanity.
