East Coast Radio.png SADTU Calls for Exam-Leaker Jail Time East Coast Radio, Durban, 2 November 2016 The South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU) says those responsible for exam leaks should face possible jail time. Its comments come after the Mathematics Paper 2 had been leaked in Limpopo. SADTU General Secretary Mugwena Maluleke says strong action must be taken against those responsible. "Those behind the leaks are messing with the lives of children. They must be brought to book to send out a strong message that fraud will not be tolerated." The Basic Education Department has confirmed that pupils at a number of schools in Giyani had access to the question paper before sitting for the exam yesterday. Zoom SADTU says the investigation into the matter must be accelerated. It is also calling on the Basic Education Department to bolster security to prevent further exam leaks. "The department should zoom in on the place where the question papers are being printed as well as the storage facilities." This is the second time in two years that an exam paper has been leaked in Limpopo. Discipline Last year, the Life Sciences Paper 2 was leaked in the Vhembe District. "The authorities cannot rule out that there is a syndicate operating in that area," Maluleke says. "People should be disciplined, whether it is learners, teachers or examination officials responsible for the leak." Maluleke says in the age of technology, exam leaks should not happen. He urges pupils not to be tempted, as cheating during matric will only further delay their future.
