The two presidents agreed to meet in a phone call on Thursday, when the New START treaty - up for renewal in 2021 - was mentioned. Mr Putin's spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the future of the treaty would "depend on the position of our American partners" and require negotiations. Mr Putin thanked the former Yugoslav republic of Slovenia - birthplace of Mr Trump's wife Melania - for offering to host the meeting. "We hope that relations will be restored in full in all areas," he said. "It relates to trade and economic ties, security issues and various regions of the world, which are suffering from numerous conflicts.
