South African Communist Party, Eastern Cape, Press Statement, 26 March 2017 SACP Congratulates SADTU for convening a successful Provincial Conference The South African Communist Party (SACP) in the Eastern Cape congratulates the South African Democratic Teachers' Union (SADTU) for convening a successful provincial conference from 23 - 25 March 2017 at the Regent Hotel, East London. SADTU in the province has been through a challenging political turbulence which saw some leaving SADTU after failing in their attempts to kill this union. We are glad that SADTU has managed to unite and move beyond this challenging period. The unity of SADTU and that of the federation, the Congress of South African Trade Unions (SADTU) is of paramount importance in leading struggles of the workers. Strong "We believe that the revival and rebuilding of COSATU is impossible with a divided SADTU. Equally, effective servicing of members and growing SADTU is impossible with a divided SADTU. Above all, a unified SADTU and a strong COSATU is not only important to the leadership and membership of SADTU but a precondition of any possibility of saving our revolution under current conditions. The period calls for all of us including SADTU to be clear of our priorities. Our revolution is at the eye of the storm." said Comrade Xolile Nqatha, SACP Eastern Cape Provincial Secretary. As the SACP we congratulate the newly elected leadership collective of SADTU and wish them well in executing their revolutionary tasks. We recommit ourselves as South African communists to work with SADTU in leading the struggles of organised and unorganised labour.
