Pro And Anti-Zuma Clashes Silence Rally Show Of Unity

A planned show of unity by COSATU came a cropper after part of the crowd
took up a chant demanding the president's resignation. Others danced and
sang in his support. The ANC president was set to address the main rally at
Bloemfontein in Free State province alongside COSATU president Sdumo Dlamini
and Communist general secretary Blade Nzimande.

But none of the three leaders of the national liberation alliance, seated
side by side, spoke. -

May Call To Resist US-Backed Bids To Wreck Government

Venezuelan communists issued a May Day call to resist US-backed coup
plotters, and for working-class power, yesterday. Supporters of both the
United Socialist Party (PSUV) government and the Democratic Unity Roundtable
(Mud) opposition coalition planned marches, the latter to the Supreme
Justice Tribunal and the National Electoral Council to repeat the demand for
an early presidential election.

A month of anti-government violence incited by the Mud has left 29 people
dead and more than 500 injured. -

Class's Struggle Of National Significance

The Iraqi Communist Party hailed the workers' struggles on May Day under
harsh conditions with Isis terror wracking the country. "The struggle of the
Iraqi working class has acquired a national and class significance, despite
the conditions," it said.

The party said it supported current efforts to unify the trade union
movement and "end the state of division in its ranks." -
