Motshekga exonerates SADTU in jobs for cash scandal

Basic Education minister Angie Motshekga exonerated SADTU members from the jobs
for cash scandal' which has caused much criminal behaviour' especially in
Limpopo and KwaZulu-Natal.

"No evidence points to SADTU' which has been instrumental in the improvements
we have seen in rural and poor schools'" said Motshekga. -

ANC man hopes film provides great escape

One of the most daring prison escapes in South Africa's history will be
immortalised in a film based on Tim Jenkin's book, Inside Out: Escape from
Pretoria Prison.

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe is lined up to portray ANC Jenkin, the
Capetonian who, with Stephen Lee and Alex Moumbaris, walked out the front door
of Pretoria Central in 1979 after cutting wooden keys in the prison workshop.

ANC statement on by-elections results

The ANC welcomes the release of results of the by-elections held in two
provinces yesterday, 24 May 2017. We congratulate the IEC. 18 wards were
contested in 2 provinces, 17 in KwaZulu-Natal and 1 in the Western Cape. The
ANC appreciates the support it received.

Even though we have never outrightly won the Nquthu Municipality, we are
nonetheless disappointed with the loss of majority in wards in the
municipality. - http://www.anc.org.za/content/anc-statement-elections-results

Address by President Jacob Zuma during the 2017 Africa Day Celebration

We are grateful to our forebears for their commitment to the liberation of
every inch of African soil. This was stated boldly by President Kwame Nkrumah
who said at the dawn of the independence of Ghana that: "Our independence is
meaningless unless it is linked up with the total liberation of Africa."

The infrastructure development programme is championed by African Heads of
State and Government. We want to produce modern transport and telecommunication
networks connecting Africa. We need roads, bridges, railway lines, trains and
modern aviation systems. -

Address by DP Ramaphosa at the 19th African Renaissance Conference

Agenda 2063 is a call to action to all Africans and people of African descent
to take personal responsibility for the destiny of the continent, championed by
Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.

The plan calls for the development of an African private sector. It is about
fostering pan-African businesses through the growth of regional manufacturing
hubs and scaled up intra-Africa trade. -

Zuma Marks Africa Day With Plea For Unity

South African President Jacob Zuma called for continental unity in his Africa
Day speech yesterday. Mr Zuma told his audience in the capital Pretoria: "We
are grateful to our forebears for their commitment to the liberation of every
inch of African soil.

"We want to produce modern transport and telecommunication networks connecting
Africa," he said "We need roads, bridges, railway lines, trains and modern
aviation systems." -

Nato To Join Air War In Syria And Iraq

NATO's secretary-general Jens Stoltenberg confirmed in Brussels that the
alliance would join the US-led bombing coalition in Syria and Iraq ("Operation
Inherent Resolve") as a bloc.

Meanwhile those countries' armed forces kept on hammering Isis, without the
US-led coalition's help. Two Syrian army fronts advancing from the east and
west met in Khunayfis, southwest of Palmyra, eliminating a pocket of Isis
resistance in the desert. -

Trump Urges Rise In Military Spending

Leaders of other NATO states stood in awkward silence as US president Trump
told them to dig deep for more weaponry, ahead of the Western alliance's summit
in Brussels.

As it emerged that the Manchester suicide bomber had fought in the NATO-backed
overthrow of Libyan dictator Muammar Gadaffi before joining the West's war on
Syria, Campaign Against Arms Trade (CAAT) spokesman Andrew Smith said: "We
don't know where these weapons will end up or who they will be used against."

US Naval Incursion In South China Sea Infuriates Beijing

Defence Ministry spokesman Colonel Ren Guoqiang said two Chinese navy frigates
had warned off the US navy guided missile destroyer USS Dewey after it entered
Chinese territorial waters without permission.

Meanwhile Taiwanese President Tsai Ing Wen, wearing a helmet and flak jacket,
observed the joint army, navy and air force manoeuvres simulating a Chinese
invasion of the western Penghu islands in the Taiwan Strait. -

Activists Slam Montenegro Expansion

The former Yugoslav republic of Montenegro is set to join Nato next month, in
the first eastward expansion of the Western alliance in eight years. Russia has
opposed the move by successor states of Yugoslavia, one of the founders of the
Non-Aligned Movement bloc of nations, to military subservience to Washington.

"Nato is not a force for peace but for war and its expansion threatens more
war," said Stop the War convener Lindsey German. -

Army Begins All-Out Assault On City Held By Jihadist Terrorists

Filipino troops began fighting in earnest yesterday to drive Isis affiliate Abu
Sayyaf out of the southern city of Marawi, which the terrorists had seized on
Tuesday night. The death cult had torched the cathedral, taken 14 hostages,
including a Catholic priest, and beheaded a police chief.

[This report is confusing, because the Morning Star editors are running a
campaign against the Philippines president Duterte, who can do not right in
their eyes, not even when he is fighting the liver-eaters.] -
