30 May 2017 SADTU in KZN Mourns the Death of Former Leader Cde “Jenny” Baiju SADTU KZN has her flags flying at half-mast since learning about the passing on of Comrade Jennipher "Jenny" Baiju. The news came as a shock to us as members of the union. Comrade Jenny worked tirelessly in building, growing and leading the organisation. Comrade Jenny was one of those few women comrades who were bold enough to stand against the past system exposing the abuse of women and participating in the fight against patriarchy. She held various positions in the Union including being the Gender Convenor of Midlands Region now known as Harry Gwala Region and the Tripartite Alliance. The positions she held are: Treasurer - COSATU PMB local Deputy Secretary - SACP Midlands Branch She was also active in the ANC. The Union has learnt a lot from Comrade Jenny and the history of SADTU is incomplete if her name is not mentioned. Comrade Jenny became one of the few female District Directors in the Province thus breaking the barrier where women are not found in the high ranking positions of the department despite the Employment Equity Act being enacted to redress the inequalities in the workplace. We mourn her passing through celebrating a life well lived. SADTU conveys sincere condolences to her child, family and workers in Umgungundlovu District. We are proud of the work she was doing as the Director ensuring that the District is counted among the best performing in the country. SADTU KZN calls on all teachers and workers in Education to recommit to the delivery of quality public education in the name of Comrade Jenny.
