As we are going to start nomination process for national leadership in few weeks to come, it is proper for one to write to you as a young person to request that we remain true to our mission and principle. We have our generational missions; it is time to act now!!! I am not one of the writers but I believe that what I want to say will be heard and understood.
The 24th conference of the young people has declared that young people should pursue their generation mission as inspired by the words of Franz Fanon when he said that “Each generation must, out of relative obscurity, discover its mission, fulfil it, or betray it.” The 24th conference has adopted radical economic freedom as our generational mission and it is up to us to fulfil or betray it. Comrades, the ANC 54th conference presents us with the opportunity to advance our mission. Young people excluding children constitute 43% of the population and old people constitute 26% of the population. Statistics justify the need for generational shift and mix. The future of majority cannot be left on the hands of minority comrades. The national leadership should have demographic representation and we are not speaking about geographic representation here. The generation that is leading the organization currently fought for the political freedom and rights for us to follow our own. Now it’s our time to lead a new social contract of economic transformation for our generation. This task cannot be left on the hands of old people because they have betrayed us/ our mission. The old guard (Old people) saw that the 24th conference leadership is capable of changing the status quo, they expelled our leadership, dislodged our youth movement and transform it to be a *“young adult desk”* of ANC from its former glory of been the progressive youth organization. Comrades, as young people, we are available to serve the ANC at its highest structure. Our patience is running low as we are majority in the country and also we are majority in terms of unemployment statistics. The old people are closing us out in politics, economy and in administration. The delay tactics is been deployed over the years, that we are young and our time will come, is no longer finding expression in our society. That expression is like a father telling his son that he will inherit his lovely mansion when he died, but every day he removes bricks from the house, and want a child to assist him in removing items. Do you want a child to be happy that he is promised a home that you are destroying every day? It is our future, we want to build it with them now or we will overthrow them because these old people are destroying our home, the mighty ANC. Generational mix is the only way that can ensure that we build together our home which can feed everyone through economic transformation. Comrades, time is now. The failure to elect young people in the national leadership will result in our mission to fail and further destroy our home. If you do not elect a person who is less than 40 years old in the top 6 or deputy president, we will never have a president and SG of ANC who are less than 50 as we used to have before the democracy. Comrades, our support is not a blank cheque, should come with conditions. We demand 40% of the positions in the national leadership so that we can advance our support. That is a condition!!!!!!
