Hi Tony
I've been meaning to blog about your distributed social bookmarking post,
but we've been soooooo busy trying to get KNotes completed.
Yes - I'd be very interested in being part of a working group on this sort
of issue.
As a tractable testcase, I'd like to have a look at making it easier to
reconcile connotea ( or citeulike ) and del.icio.us. I'm probably fairly
typical in preferring to use a DOI-aware bookmarking service where a DOI
is available, but that is rare, so almost all my resources are in
del.icio.us. Colleagues who track my del.icio.us resources often miss
stuff that I've added in connotea, for instance.
I'd be quite happy to explore this pragmatically with hand-crafted hacks
to begin with, but I'm willing to write testbed services / UIs if required.
In the longer term, we here at KnowNet are very interested in
meta-metadata services to help groups and communities to share tagsonomies
and express their own domain's semantics. We're also interested in
exploring how to provide a seamless interface into data-outside
resource-management for end-users who are members of community sites /
portals but know or care nothing about the global social services...
letting them collect resources into del.icio.us, for instance, without
knowing that del.icio.us exists.
In the meantime I think a lot of prgress can be made just by pushing hard
as users, trying to shake out general issues from our own particular cases
- for instance trying hard to co-operate in some tagging experiments
For an example of what I mean by 'pushing hard' as individual users, see
the Resource-Base, Standards, Architectures and Open Source in Education,
(basically a front-end to my own bookmarks), for the SIGOSSEE project.
I'd love to get connotea shared citation integrated into that, and to make
it easy for other taggers to get involved ( at the moment I just ask them
to add for:Mike_Malloch to their tags for pertinent materials )
http://www.ossite.org/research/standards/library
which I've blogged about at
http://www.knownet.com/writing/elearning2.0/entries/sigossee_resource_base
So - please do count me in. We're very busy with KNotes for a few weeks,
but eager to get cracking on shared social bookmarking/citation after
that. (KNotes is a multiuser blogging and discussion system for Plone/Zope
which we've built, and which provides a foundation for future experiments
to integrate social software with weblogging, especially since we have a
solid implementation of the blogging APIs to play with).
regards
Mike
