Mostly we're trying to extend it. We were going to do it earlier but
I've become nervous about changing the data type in the database without
further testing. I have a bunch of good ideas about storing freeform
notes that I'd love to get out there at some point...

Naturally we have limited people with which to do stuff so I have to
make decisions as to what goes in, when, etc. Not that this has changed
from previously.

The limit is something we should definitely do (although I believe it
will still be buggy; the form will count characters and the db counts
bytes.)

Subject: Re: [delicious-discuss] notes maximum length?

This discussion, I think, hints at a larger issue. Is del.icio.us a
service that people should expect something (like reasonable
notification of data truncation) of? Or is it still something that
people shouldn't expect so much? Because, really, it's probably 1% or
less of the bookmarks on the system where the note is truncated.
Perhaps dealing with this doesn't make it onto the to do list.

We're not customers, really, we don't even look at ads, so sometimes I
think we should just be grateful for whatever it does, other times I
really wish it would do the little things I think are important -
which are perhaps 'fringe' types of things in someones estimation, or
perhaps are being worked on behind the scenes since companies can't be
transparent with their plans b/c of competition etc.

What I'm trying to say here is that it's puzzling, not that I'm
unhappy with del or yahoo or anyone else. Are we customers now that
del is yahoo owned? It's easiest to say we're "users" or
"contributors" but what does that really mean in terms of how
delicious relates to us?

Also, it's relevant to know what was bought when yahoo bought
delicious? Was it just the technology, the "community," the actual
data in the database? I'm sure it was some combination, but probably
one was more important. It will eventually be evident from their
actions I suppose.
