I once thought I wanted an "author" field in Del. But I've discovered that plain old tags can do a lot of this...now I use the convention that all-lowercase are "normal" tags and CamelCase for the author name "field". I don't know if this convention would particularly help you personally, but I've seen other Del users doing this, too.
