Here's how to get back to the GameOS: Put the PS3 in standby (if possible) Shut it off using the switch in the back. Turn the PS3 back on using the switch. Hold the power button on the PS3 until you hear a second beep (or about 7 seconds) When it turns back on, the default display setting and OS will be active and you will have change those back to your preferred.
Now you can format the HDD again to remove YDL off of it, and restore the HDD (if you backed it up before you started) using the system restore option. Hope this helps, if you have any questions feel free to shoot me an e-mail at [email protected]. It's only models manufactured in December that have this issue.
