Did you try setting up your printer via the CUPS interface?  
If you haven't that may be a procedure you should try.

If you have named your system something, let's say you named it arcadia.
Then you would type: 
arcadia: 631

CUPS should provide a generic driver for your printer; you'll have to be 
patient going through the entire process.  You may find that there is one 
already available or that you have to download it and install it into CUPS or 
you may have to wait for one to be written.
