I am actually surprised that kudzu didn't pick up the change automatically?

so try modprobe mace or modprobe bmac (I forget what chip your machine has).
When you find the working module, then edit your /etc/modprobe.conf so it has a line like this (without the quotes): "alias eth0 <correct driver from above>"
