Yeah it's not a yum problem I'm having, it's a netatalk problem. And yes you are correct I do add sudo before yum install netatalk.

Oops, sorry! It was just a shot in the dark on my part.

the problem I'm having is that when I try connect from my PB with OSX to my eMac with YDL, I get the error message saying that the files and volumes I want on my local drive.

Though it is not exactly the same as mounting a networked drive, for transferring files I have had very good luck using ssh/sftp. ssh can be accomplished over a commandline, but sftp is *much* easier with a GUI. To connect to Linux from the OS X side, I use the freeware program Fugu (highly recommended), and on the Linux side Konqueror works well (use the open command and type your address in the format "sftp://[EMAIL PROTECTED]" to connect). This might accomplish much of what you want to do, and has the advantage of being extremely secure.

Good luck!

Best wishes,
Clint
