Apparently nobody has an answer to my question. In case someone knows anything about this issue and can help me here is another thing I found out lately.
In the Linux box I'm trying to connect via samba I checked the system.log and found this following line:

reply_nt1: smb signing is incompatible with share level security

Thanks

Hi
I'm having problems mounting a smbfs volume on my Mac running Tiger. I had the problem with Panther too.
I'm running YDL 4 on a Beige G3 and my samba version is 3.0.10-1.ydl.1
When I do mount -t smbfs //[EMAIL PROTECTED]/www /Volumes/www I get the following error:
mount_smbfs: spnego blob2principal error 1
mount_smbfs: tree connect phase failed: syserr = Permission denied

My smb.conf is as follows:

[global]
    workgroup = linuxgroup
    server string = Samba Server
    hosts allow = 192.168.1. 127.
