Hello all,
I purchased the geek edition YDL 4.0.1 CDs for installation on my old iBook back in April. There were problems with installation, but I got it installed. However, now it appears to hang during first boot. I posted a message to the forum on the YDL site, but no one has been able to provide me with a solution. There are a number of other messages there that seem to suggest there are problems with YDL 4.0.1 on older machines (by the way, YDL 3.x works fine on my iBook). For example, a person with a tangerine clamshell iBook also is having problems. The hardware section of the YDL site indicates there are sound problems - but this is way beyond a sound problem. A copy of my post to the forum follows. The moderator thought the problem might be related to settings that happen during/post install, and suggested pressing fn+ctrl+alt+f2 to get a terminal and logging in there, but that doesn't do anything.
Any ideas? I could go back to YDL 3.x, but I hate thinking I've wasted $$ on 4.0.1 CDs that are useless.

----- (copy of 4/14 posting to forum) ----
This is a second generation iBook, 366MHz, clamshell without Firewire. YDL 3 was running fine, I purchased the 4.0.1 CDs. During the install, I got an "unrecognized monitor" message and had to do a text install. At the end of the install, there was a message about "bogus values" that seemed to be related to the display. When I reboot the machine, I get the error
PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 0 of device 0001:10:19:0 macserial: can't request IO resource
The startup seems to hang after displaying the line
Initializing firewire controller (ohci1394) [OK]
A friend suggests that GUI stuff is starting up after this, so he suggested it might be related to the monitor. As I recall, YDL 3 also had a problem recognizing my iBook's monitor, but I was able to do a graphic install anyway.
Any help or suggestions would be most welcome
Vasily
