I actually got it working fairly smoothly a long wile ago (qemu was
fairly new at the time)...
In combination with bin_fmt kernel extension it worked very smoothly
(in that once it's registered thru bin_fmt I could simply double
click .exe files in KDE/gnome which would in turn fire up wine thru
qemu), but SUPER slow ;)
Honestly not worth the effort, even with latest qemu :(
