bootx is part of OS 9. If you change your startup disk to the os 9
install (which os x nornally does not delete) it will boot into OS 9
and then switch over to ydl when bootx loads.

Perhaps Kevin meant to write his yaboot is gone? If so, check out the Terrasoftsolutions' website for a how to on recovering yaboot.

Also, command-option-p-r at chime time (boot) may get yaboot working again.
