Hello all, I've been having problems with my sshd server. Sometimes I am unable to login to the sshd from other computers on my LAN (DHCP server/router hooked up to modem) (though, strangely enough, if I use the ssh feature of webmin, I *am* able to login, and, I can login to X through XDMCP (/usr/X11R6/bin/X -query 192.168.0.x) where I can access the command line through terminal.
I am able to get the password prompt but it takes forever to appear and when I do enter the password it says connection refused (but, now it's working again). I'm trying to find out if sshd maintains a log and haven't had any success so far. Do I have to manually start sshd and tell it to create a log? Trouble shooting is a little bit of a bugger since two things have changed: 1. I installed a new NIC into the Beige G3 (which YDL auto-configured); and, 2. My ADSL connection has been quite flakey (it seems that the company maintaining the lines into my house has been "suffering" from a shortage of technicians (i.e. they're trying to do too much with too little)). The sshd wasn't performing when the ADSL connection was down so perhaps it needed to have access to a DNS server to accept local connections (doubful)? (aside: when will "we" (computer community) once and for all settle on the meaning of DNS-- domain name server/system/service?)
