That message means that the options for using those drivers where not selected as options when the kernel was built. What you were attempting with fstab would work if you were attempting to mount a usb hard drive. This is quite different. You are attempting to get the kernel to recognize and mount a usb device -- which can be any kind of usb device, such as a light bulb connected and powered through a usb port. Such things exist... anyway that might be a bad example, but representative of the variety of usb devices out there, in the market.

So the work around involves building a new kernel from source and this time making sure that the option for activating and using usb devices is properly selected. There are instructions regarding building a kernel. One resource for reference is here:

http://www.ppckernel.org/

You can also go onto www.yellowdoglinux.com and within the How To page select the option to Search and then type in the field the word kernel.

Best wishes....

i suppose this is a line to add in /etc/fstab ???

i've added the following line in /etc/fstab :
none /proc/bus/usb usbdevfs defaults 0 0

however when rebooting i had the following message "usbdevfs" isn't supported by the kernel.

then, i suppose this trick is for usb ram-keys ???

any idae on how to see the scanner ???
