I also had reproducible crashes with it. The solution was to grab ttmkfdir-3.0.9-16.src.rpm from rpmfind.net (FC4? Or FC5?) and to re-build it - works flawlessly now!

Also, what directory are you running it from? What arguments, etc?

In my case, e.g. called from the startup script to rebuild the indices for xfs.
