A bit of poking about reveals that "GLIBCXX_1.2.3" versions DO NOT CORRESPOND TO GCC VERSIONS EXACTLY. Which leads me to suspect that I really need a gcc-4.0 build. Fedora Core 4 for PPC has the 4.x libraries.
