Hi Jeff: In my opinion, YDL 4.1 is better for the G5 as every release, of YDL, is better than it's previous one. Although I don't have a G5 I have read a variety of emails regarding this problem from persons engaging in a variety of strategies, the fan issue could remain a problem no matter what is done.
