The CELL on the PS3 has one PPU core that acts like two using hyperthreading. It has 8 SPU cores, but Sony disables one to get an increase in production yield. One more is used by Sony for the hypervisor that sits between Linux and the real hardware for security reasons. That leaves 6 SPUs available for Linux.
It is unlikely that any update TSS makes will change those numbers, as Sony is in complete control.
