Well I can't help you with the partitioning cause I haven't used it
other than to partition my internal, with no problems. But search
around and ask on forums or places like this, and once you've gotten
past the partitioning thing, I'm sure you'll be home free. Good luck

right, I have used the text installation but can't get past the disk partitioning because YDL won't recognize my external firewire.
Sorry, to be so naive but you have cleared up the whereabouts of the file. I do run x11 from Apple but the file cannot be found there either.
Thanks, Bob
Alright, I'm a little confused here. But i'll give this a shot.
If you're having this display error during installation you need to use
the text installation. After you've finished the installation, you're
going to have to boot in text mode, and then find the file, because it's
installed with YDL, and I don't believe it's in OS X, unless you're
running X11. Are setting up a dual boot or just planning on running YDL?

Thanks again, but after long searching with finder, etc, I cannot
find this file.
Thanks, Bob

Yeah it should be in /etc/X11 and it's either called XF86Config
or XFree86.conf
here's a link to the place that I found this from:

good luck with the rest of it

Thanks for the suggestion. Do you know where this file is located.
I'm somewhat naive and
I can't seem to find it in my system. I have a working kde via fink
with bells and whistles but I thought I'd try YDL.
Thanks again,
B

I had the same problem installing YDL on my eMac. Not on an
external but anywho. The file that you want to get to in order to
change the refresh rate is in /etc/x11/ it'll either be
XFree86.conf, or for some reason mine is XF86Config.
I don't really know about the partitioning but I believe that you
have to use Disk Druid to partition the drive, not Disk Utility.
And I don't know but I believe you have to use yaboot in order to
dual boot YDL and OS X.
Hopefully at least you can get your screen working.

I have an eMac with an external firewire drive. I am trying to
install ydl on this hard drive. When installing graphically I get
the documented error "no screens found" and a parse error on
line 71 of /tmp/xF86 configtest. I have read some suggestions but
cannot find this file to change the refresh rate. When I try to
install in text mode I run up against the hell of disk
partitioning which fails on automatic and also using disk druid
according to the manual. I previously partitioned the disk using
Disk Utility into two partitions and reinstalled osx on the
second partitions as suggested in the manual. I tried to create
a osx boot sector and it won't succeed with Disk Druid.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't have the purchased
support.
Thanks, Bob
