Thanks, it worked when the username and core password were different.

What computer are you using?

Just as a quick overview YDL 3 and earlier are best used for G3 and earlier based Macs. The current version is YDL 4.0.1 which many modern G4 and G5 Macs utilize best.

Regarding login and password one easy thing which many overlook: Are you sure that your Cap Lock key is not active? Perhaps your password may be lowercase, but you may have missed that you may be instead typing upper case. If this simple issue is not a contributor to what is going on, then perhaps there is a record somewhere of the password and username you originally set when you were yet installing YDL? That username and password is what is being looked for at the first login.

If there is no record anywhere of what that is or you can't remember it; you can reset it depending upon which Mac you have as there are different boot and emergency procedures for different models using different versions of YDL.

If you choose to attempt one more reinstall, this time set up a separate password for root and a separate user password for a user account for most activities which won't require root access. As a precaution they shouldn't be the same password. In addition, set up your login option so that your first login is set for text, not the login user interface. This will present the opportunity that if necessary (like this situation) you will have direct access to a terminal providing at least limited access to key emergency functions as root or superuser. The graphic based user login prevents that; although there are ways around that to.

Best wishes...
