G5 fan revving problems with YDL 4.0.1?

Are there G5 fan revving problems with YDL 4.0.1? I tried Ubuntu Dapper (flight 3) PPC live-CD and there were fan revving problems and YDL seems to have an older kernel than Dapper. This is a kernel problem, right or is it something else?
