A quick short cut to what I presented earlier is this:  

I've discovered quite by accident something that you are looking for;
there already exists an application within YDL6 which CAN replace Yahoo
Messenger!  Just do the following within e17:

Applications --> Internet --> Internet Messenger

Then under the Basic Tab notice Protocol select from the pop-up menu: Yahoo.

Proceed with the help features within that application which calls itself
Pidgin.
