I am attempting to breath some life into a iMac G3 by using a ppc dsitro of Linux. I have tried Fedora 9 earlier this week and today Yellow Dog. In each case, I am getting the same thing.
Boots OK, seems to Init all services, etc and leaves me at a localhost login prompt. The only user each of these distros asked to create is root. So, being a newbie at this, I lay myself at your mercy.
Fedora 9 gave an error early in the anaconda run about the ATI Rage 128 video not supporting X, and defaulted to Text. Yellow Dog blew right past that stuff, only asking for the root password. In each case, the install went OK from there. Looks like I need to see about a video driver, maybe? Could this be the problem?
Hopefully someone will point me to one of those beginner step-by step lesson pages. I've done this before, but my day-to-day work is Windows and Macintosh.
