* Add infrastructure to support "annotations"
This can be used to insert/remove text in a mode-dependent, syntax-dependent
way.
For example, Haskell's \ can be displayed as a lambda.
NOTE: this is enabled only in the vty UI for the moment, but it should be
easy to adapt to other UIs.
