I can already search by Quicksilver. I invoke quicksilver, press Y
and Yojimbo comes up, then tab, "se" for Search Contents, Return,
and that invokes a new "left side", where I start typing and I get
a filtered result set of only the Yojimbo items that meet my
criteria. I select the one I want, then tab again, and I can run
an action on the selected item, most likely "Show in Yojimbo".
Wow. Maybe it's time to switch from LaunchBar to Quicksilver. But
if I count right this involves no less than nine keyboard
operations, so I wonder if the F6/type/Return way isn't faster
after all. Have you timed it?
To be honest, until this thread I had forgotten about the F6 option,
and mine was disabled. Also, if one wants to do some other action
other than Show in Yojimbo, like "Copy to Clipboard" then Quicksilver
might seem faster if for no other reason than you've manipulated the
data without bringing Yojimbo to the foreground.
Additionally, Quicksilver has the "Triggers" concept -- you could
assign a key (even F6 if you keep it disabled in the Yojimbo
preferences) to trigger the Quicksilver "Yojimbo" + "Search Contents"
combo which would bring you automatically to the "second set" where
you type the search criteria to select an Yojimbo Item, and then tab
to the action you want on that item. So that would match the built-in
F6 method for number of characters, but might seem faster to some.
I think between Yojimbo's own F6 Find in Library feature, in addition
to other methods like Spotlight, Quicksilver, etc. there's a lot of
options to get a workflow you like. I'm less concerned about the
number of keystrokes as I am derailing my train of thought. I've used
Quicksilver to get to Yojimbo quickly in the past, but I'm also done
Command-Tab to bring Yojimbo to the foreground and typed directly
into the search box as well; again, I sort of forgot about the F6
shortcut. :)
Hope that helps you find something you like.
