As I said on the list a few weeks ago, I'm interested in helping out. Rick, 
please start working in svn as soon as you can.

I ultimately need an embeddable non-transient NameService with a pluggable 
persistence backend. I guess the best approach would be to design the code with 
persistence in mind and initially work only on an InMemory implementation.
