Hi rick,

I would not want to see another module added, I will try to put together
a patch that takes care of the profiles by tomorrow... Can you use that
& combine the assembly you are working on? I will forward more details
tomorrow...
If you take care of the profiles, there's no need for anything to be combined with my stuff. I was just creating another version of the distribution that contained just the stuff related to the base orb (core, spec-corba, rmi-spec, and rmi-impl), plus the samples. All of that can be handled in a profile just as easily. I just wasn't conversant enough with M2 to take that route.

I didn't do it with a profile, I just added an "embedded" module. I started by copying the distribution module, and trimming it back so that

it only included the bits we needed. This allows us to release two sets

of distributions, depending on what's actually required. This works fairly well, but as currently done, we have two copies of the orb samples tree. I think the samples might be better handled as a separate

module of their own. That, however, is cleanup work that can be done later after we create something that Geronimo can use.

Understood... Have you started this already?
It looks like we need to create profiles in the distribution module &
when we run mvn with the embedded profile; we could use another
assembly-embedded-bin xml to generate our distribution. I am just
interested as to how you are planning to do it...

Thanks

Hi rick,

The way I understand it is that, we would build the source
distribution
with all of the modules & the only the binary distribution would
contain
the core orb part. If so, we should have the same license & notices
file.

But when we voted on releasing yoko & when we discussed about this, I
was under the impression that many of them voted not to create the
separate distribution with just the ORB. I am fine with it, but just
wanted to make sure the others are as well...
The consensus seems to be swaying back and forth. The Geronimo crowd are nervous about the packages having CXF dependencies that might hold

up getting a release created for the pieces they need. Right now, I'm

just exploring the issues of what would be required to create a
separate
embedded package without all of the larger depedencies.

I think we should create the separate distribution package to help
Geronimo release & then we could work towards releasing all of the
yoko
modules...

Should the LICENSE and NOTICES files for a smaller distribution containing just the base ORB subprobjects be trimmed to remove
mention
of the packages that are not included in the distribution?
