All Linux OSes have dial up support. The problem lies with the type of modem
you have. If it is an internal "winmodem" - i,e the sort which tend to come
bundled in PCs - then the chances of it working straight away can vary.
All real modems - i.e those which do not rely on drivers to perform the actual
modulation/demodulation of the signal - work fine.
I suspect you will have a winmodem - which, because of the reluctance of
manufacturers to release the information to create a Linux driver (or indeed
their reluctance to create a Linux driver themselves), make it unlikely the
modem would work at first.
Many winmodems WILL work with Linux - once the correct driver is located and
installed, however, it is not a task for those completely new to Linux.
If you have a Winmodem, this will be the case with all Linux distros.
