Hi tobias,

I can confirm now xorg7.1 works with package update 4 of package xorg-fonts ... it doesnt work as normal user though ..
it just a matter of wrong permissions ... so quite easy to correct ..
i think package xorg-server needs this correction ..
the binary Xorg needs to be setup with chmod 4711 ..
what i did to make it work as normal user .. was

cd /usr/bin
chmod 4711 ./Xorg ..
after this i can run xorg as normal user ...

By the way congrats on finishing xorg7.1 .. its looking great .. i can see lots of drv packages flowing in as well .. lol

Cheers,

Johnbon

Hi tobias ...

I notice that all pcf.gz files are in /usr/lib/X11/fonts and not in e.g. /usr/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi etc ..
I am not sure if this is right .. but i notice on other distros that pcf.gz files are in subdirs ..
i am not sure if this will resolve the problem with fixed font though ..

Cheers,

Hi tobias ...

I installed xorg-fonts today ... message about missing fonts is gone .. apart from two errors, which are:

1)

Fatal server error:
could not open default font 'fixed'
XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on Xserver ": 0.0"
after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining.

2) is five lines regarding xauth .. like in my previous emails ..

After installing xauth .. the xauth errors were gone

The one that remains though is error 1) after installing xorg-fonts and xauth ...

The xserver needs to be able to open the default font 'fixed'.

Ok more test results later ..

Cheers,

Johnbon

Hi,

just some update to all dev's working on xorg-7.1 .

For anybody willing to jump in here are the sources:
ftp://ftp.x.org/pub/individual I also refer in the following lines to
that structure given on that ftp.

* All apps, but compiz, proxymngr, xphelloworld and xsm are built.
* From data we miss xcursor-themes and xkbdata which I will do next.
* From driver we got kbd, mouse, ati and nv. All other drivers are missing.
* We miss everything from font.
* We might miss some library but all necessary libs we usually need are built.
* The majority of the proto packages is available in
xorg-x11-proto-devel , surely a very few (uncommon) are missing.
* utilities are available as package imake / lndir.
* The xorg-server and the xgl extension are built already.

So what's left to be done ? So far I see those tasks:

1) Get the font stuff compiled and properly packaged.
2) Increase the number of available drivers.
3) Provide 1 meta package which installs a working X 7.1 server.
4) Provide 1 meta package which installs a working xgl-server which
can be easily switched on and off.

Once the font stuff has been built it's time to test the new xserver
thoroughly and get a good basic configuration done. For that we need
lot's of testers from the dev's. Any more input welcome.

regards
