Just another note on this, I am rebuilding gnome-panel atm, so maybe wait for that to hit the repo. Also, feel free to look over the specs of all the different gnome packages and make any suggestions. That would be a far better use of your time rather than building gnome from source. If you just want Gnome on your computer, look at installing garnome. This will, once you have the dependencies installed, download, compile and install the Gnome Desktop.

Hi Chaks, There are new packages in the repo's now. Particularly gnome-base. That should install everything you need for gnome except the gnome audio package. It hasn't been built yet. Install it, then from the kdm screen choose gnome as your desktop and then login. Once into the desktop you will have to add the main menu icon to the applet bar. It helps if you remove all the gnome/gconf settings before logging in. At least it did for me. I would love help getting it set up thouugh, I am not a gnome user and would appreciate any help you could give with getting it running properly.
