Hi there!

This has been giving me troubles for some time so I decided I'd write
the list about it. The thing is that here in the uni, we have some
Epson Perfection 1650 scanners which used to run OK while I was still
lost on Ubuntu, but they won't run now. That's why I decided to ask
here and not on the SANE dev list.

Here's some useful info:

# lsusb
Bus 005 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 003 Device 006: ID 04b8:0110 Seiko Epson Corp. Perfection 1650
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000

# sane-find-scanner
[...]
found USB scanner (vendor=0x04b8 [EPSON], product=0x0110 [EPSON
Scanner]) at libusb:003:003
 # Your USB scanner was (probably) detected. It may or may not be supported by
 # SANE. Try scanimage -L and read the backend's manpage
[...]

# scanimage -L

No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).

Now this is what struck me the most - it can determine that the
scanner is EPSON, but it won't run the driver.

Here are some relevant lines from /etc/sane.d/epson.conf
[...]
# SCSI scanner:
scsi EPSON
# for the GT-6500:
scsi "EPSON SC"

usb
[...]

I think the last line is the one that matters.
I've read some things on the net and tried out the following combination

usb 0x04b8 0x0110

but again to no avail.

Also,
[EMAIL PROTECTED] /home/p3sho # saned -d
[saned] main: starting debug mode (level 2)
[saned] main: [1] bind failed: Address already in use

if any of you has some insights on the issue, please share. It would
be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,
Petar.
