Hi guys,

There are a few issues that should be addressed:

1.- Localization support -- I'll work on it and I'll try to fix it out this evening 2.- Boot scripts - There is a total mess with this. It needs some checking and organization. I still think the solution carried out for the fonts refreshing isn't quite good, because it really increases the time KDE takes to load. I think a better solution would be to use a 'nice' command to control its priority (this should be very low as it isn't critical at all) and lauch a few minutes after KDE has fully loaded (now it only brings to my mind using somenthing like: sleep <sometime> && refreshing_fonts ). This way the user wouldn't notice this action is being carried out. 3.- The installer doesn't manage partitions completely well. For example, I have two FAT32 partions, one having Windows (hda1) and anoher having only data (hdb1). When I install Yoper it adds to entries to the GRUB menu as I would have two Windows installed (ohhh my God!!). It simply assumes, if the partions is FAT32 => it is a Windows partion => GRUB entry. This can be improved by simply mounting the partion and, if and only if, the file msdos.sys file exits, a Windows entry must be added to the GRUB. 4.- I have noticed some packagers still do not document their packages properly (does it sound to you Tobias? :-P ) It is essential for newcomers to know what packages we have and what they are for, and this could hardly be done if packages metadata isn't include. So please packagers, do not forget adding information about what your packages do (Summary, Description and URL tags especially must be filled up) It doesn't take that long after all... 5.- Static IP management currently only has a temporary solution and we shouldn't accept a temporary solution in a RC. This should be also addressed.

I'll work on the boot scripts organization, I'll try to improve them.

I think this is all I had to say for the moment being. I hope you take this from a constructive point of view ...we've done a huge work with minimal man power and this should make feel proud of ourselves. :-)

Best regards to the Yoper team. ;-)

Subject: [yoper-dev] RC1 Status confirmation
Date: Fri, 18 May 2007 09:11:50 +1200

Hi,

I'd like to confirm that there are only 2 issues left for RC1 . So if
you see any more issues please shout out loud.

Blocker:

1) Package installation from the regular CD does not work. If you
install the regular CD and try to use it to install more packages the
repository on the cd is not recognized. Will be looked into today.

Minor:

1) Log out from live cd installation gives you only an end session
button. I am pretty confident we can fix this with an updated package.
Furthermore you're still able to log out. It's not nice but imho not a
biggie.

Others issue , which won't be fixed for rc1 anyway:

Booting from external usb drive: I don't have one , so I can not
possibly fix that.

---

I am gonna focus on making the package installation work from the
regular CD. The RC1 is supposed to be released in approx 12 hours. So
let's see how things work out.

regards
