However, in that automated test system of Debian,
does the persistent user configuration matter at all?
If I understand correct, all it does is to install the
yoshimi package and then just to launch this one single test.
OTOH, if we know that this test system has a working ALSA, we
could instead use a CLI script and actually produce some notes.
Maybe this is something we could discuss with the Debian maintainers.
However, letting this specific case aside, it is indeed a valid
question how much it makes sense to store permanently those settings
given by commandline arguments.
My guess / impression is: if a user starts Yoshimi with Jack or
Alsa connection (for MIDI or Audio), this is probably something
we should remember persistently. But if the GUI is disabled
or the CLI for that, or the new --null option, then we're
probably better off not remembering those changes permanently.
The user has the ability to change that through the settings anyway.
