First of all I had a great time at LAC, and am really looking forward to next year's one. If you get the chance I can thoroughly recommend it. Not only are there some very thought-provoking presentations but there is a lot of discussion around the dinner table - often quite intense, but good natured.
By the way, we're ahead of the game :) One evening I mentioned that Yoshi now has a splash screen. This was quickly taken up by a number of people. I was pleasantly surprised that it was then raised at the conference closing discussion and the need for instant feedback to the user that something was happening. As for the suggestions... > * Add the name of the current instrument to window titles of any of the > instrument's child windows. Should be easy to do. I'll put it on my list. > * Reverse the order of panels in the 'Part's Insert Effects' window, so > that the effect number/type selection takes place at the top and the > selected effect's controls are at the bottom. Sounds OK on the face of it, but 'unbalances' the window. You either have to increase the size, leaving the copy&paste and close icons orphaned at the bottom, or move these to the top as well, but this would then break the overall theme as *all* close icons are at the bottom towards the right. > * For the harmonics faders, use something like logarithmic mapping of > fader position to value. With the currently implemented mapping, the > harmonics are audible fairly loud as soon as the fader is pulled up > by just one or two pixels. I need to look at the actual implementation of this to see whether it is viable. > * Missing tooltip on the global bandwidth fader in SUBsynth. > (Not mission critical as the label is quite explanatory. While we're > at it: the 'Drum mode' checkbox in the instrument kit window also > lacks a tooltip and is less self-explanatory. List them and I'll add them as and when I'm working on or near those sections. > * An 'import samples' feature in PADsynth. This would be a can of worms I think. If anyone wants to provide a patch for this I'll look at it, but I won't pursue it myself. I suspect it won't work very well. > > * Optional "crossfades" along overlapping note ranges in instrument > kits, to achieve a smooth transition from one sound to another. > (Would hurt compatibility with zyn.) This is something I've thought about myself. It's a nice idea for simple volume fades, but can quickly become rather complex, both in implementation and for user control (and comprehension). e.g: item A goes 0 to 50 B goes 40 to 80 C goes 70 to 100 D goes 90 to 127 Well that's 3 cross fades, but possible. However, what if also: E goes 0 to 80 F goes 40 to 127 G goes 70 to 90 How does that work? Where do we say 'stop'? Also this is just volume. Will we have to do the same for panning? filters? ... Extras: There are still some numeric menus we haven't converted to spin boxes, and also some spin boxes that don't wrap around. I change these when I find them (and remember) but if any one finds them, please let me know. I had some discussion at LAC with several people about documentation and the best format to use. While initially creating info I'm inclined to stick to plain text files. This is the only format I know of that is universally available without 'issues' on any system. I've done documentation for a number of products my employer makes, and am reasonably good at taking raw notes and converting them into properly formatted and grammatically correct English. So... If anyone would has some spare time and would like to describe various bits of Yoshi in musician, rather than technical terms, please do so and send them to me. Hmmm. I know there was something else, but I failed to write it down :( -- Will J Godfrey http://www.musically.me.uk Say you have a poem and I have a tune. Exchange them and we can both have a poem, a tune, and a song. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ BPM Camp - Free Virtual Workshop May 6th at 10am PDT/1PM EDT Develop your own process in accordance with the BPMN 2 standard Learn Process modeling best practices with Bonita BPM through live exercises http://www.bonitasoft.com/be-part-of-it/events/bpm-camp-virtual- event?utm_ source=Sourceforge_BPM_Camp_5_6_15&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=VA_SF _______________________________________________ yoshimi-user mailing list [email protected] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/yoshimi-user
