Unless the database corruption is severe, Entourage will open without
rebuilding. The more corrupt it gets the harder it is to successfully
rebuild. Your best option, as long as you can open Entourage is to manually
move your data into a new Identity.

That's correct. Rebuilding makes a backup. However, not all backups are good
copies. I always advise making a copy first in the Finder. I have seen a
backup go completely bad during the rebuild leaving you with nothing. It's
rare, but it does happen.

Under File in the Menu bar select Export. You can export as Entourage
archive (.rge) selecting contacts or everything and as a tab delimited file.
Do both. Tab delimited files are extremely small and can be opened in any
text editor or Excel. The Entourage archive (.rge) can only be read by
Entourage but are extremely small also and easy for importing into a new
Identity.

Entourage won't see them if they are in the wrong place.

Entourage 2004 cannot access Entourage X Identities until they are upgraded
for Entourage 2004.

Hope this helps!
