Sorry for my delayed reply.
When I got the duplicates, I went through them and removed them by hand.
What a terrible chore! This happened several times, requiring the manual
cleanup each time.
Then I learned... I back up my iCal database every time before I do an sync.
If I get the warning message ("there are [x] conflicts") there is no choice
but to let the sync continue. After the faulty sync finishes, I then
restore iCal from the backup, which restores the Entourage calendar inside
Entourage.
What a pain.
