The short response is Yes and I used the new SL compatible
SuperDuper.

The longer version is I was having all kinds of issues with my old
10.5.8 with Office 2008 and some other applications. I installed
Snow Leopard and had no real issues with Office 2008 but the
Time Machine was hosed and it would give me the Black Screen
of Death (the dark screen telling you to push the power button
on the back - in multiple languages). This is a the sign of a
Kernal Panic.

After talking to AppleCare, it was decided I needed to erase and
install. No problem erasing the Macintosh HD but then I ran
into major problems when I tied to install 10.6 on the clean drive.
It said Snow Leopard could not be installed on this Mac. My guess
(that was wrong) was SL could not detect a Leopard on the hard
drive. I got the same thing with Leopard and even with my Tiger.
At this point I carried the Intel 2.4 GHz iMac to the Apple Store
for help. The Apple guy was trying to install 10.6 from his master
and he got the same Black Screen of Death.

He indicated he has seen that before and it can be caused by
memory. He pulled the 2 GB stick and left the one Apple 1 GB
and installed Snow Leopard and everything was working perfect.
We even attached my external hard drive the Time Machine
started doing its thing. All (((repeat all ))) of my issues were
probably due to a 3rd party 2 GB DDR2 SDRAM. I still have never
found a reliable memory tester. They all said my RAM was good.

I left the Apple Store and installed my older other 1 GB stick and
everything has been working perfect. It was just a major PITA
to reinstall everything..... and I mean everything.

I contacted the MFG of the 3rd party stick (provided by a friend)
and discovered the part number was not for an Apple iMac. I have
the correct part number on order to replace one of the 1 GB DDR2
SDRAMs.

Sorry about the long winded shaggy-dog story. As part of the
rebuilding of Humpy-Dumpty I installed Office 2008 from the disc.
Microsoft makes this very hard and time consuming. My disc
installed 12.0 and I had to do each update one at a time. What
a pain. Has MS every heard of a Combo?

I copied my Office 2008 Identities from a SuperDuper 10.5.8
backup and the first time I ran Entourage I had to rebuilt the
database. I also had issues registration but this was resolved
by a Mactiopia tip titled "Remove and reenter the Office 2008
product key" at

et=f2d51b70-f7d6-4a3c-ae8b-b90597d7530e1033>

The new install worked great and I have had no issues other
than the missing Custom Dictionary.

The dictionary problem is my User/Library/Preferences folder
on the SuperDuper drive does not contain a Microsoft folder.
The new Office 2008 installer added a one so I will just start
over with a clear user dictionary. This is no big deal.

I am now very pleased with Snow Leopard and Office 2008
has never worked better. Something tells me I had some
issues in the old 10.5.8 setup. It is hard to start over but
now that it is done it was worth the time and effort.

Like the old saying says .... I've been there, had fun and
don't want to do it again!

Thanks for reading this long shaggy dog success story!
