Basics on Microsoft AutoUpdater (MAU)

There is only one version of the MAU for Office 2008 regardless if you
have v12 or v13 installed.

This file: ~/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.autoupdate2.plist says
what is on the machine. All MAU does is look at the list in that plist
to see what is on the machine and then goes up to the download center
to see if there is anything that works with the products on the
machine. MAU is ignorant about those items in the list - it just knows
to go look for manifests related to them.

If you get a notice to update when you know you are updated, check to
see if you have other versions of Office installed that the MAU is
finding. MAU wants to update, but then when the update comes down the
updater sees Office in the right location and doesn't go looking for
others. Open the plist and see what copies of Office it sees on the
machine.
