N.B. - This started out as a question on how to fix an issue, now, it is a bit of a rant. Skip past it if you wish.
So, last night our tech folk took our Outlook server off line to do maintenance. This morning I see an ugly dialog box right over top of Entourage: 'Error. The folder Inbox cannot be synchronized with the server. Explanation. You must empty the cache for the folder before it can be synchronized again.' The message then goes on to describe how to do this. There is no other option. Emptying the cache seemingly must be done. So, I do. I am now left with 17 messages in my Inbox. There were many more messages than that yesterday. The messages that I had in the Inbox were those that I NEEDED for work. And now, they seemed to be gone. AND, as an added bonus, Entourage throws up a similar dialog box for Contacts, Calendars and every other folder. BEFORE I go emptying all the caches and losing everything, any ideas how to rectify this, 'cause to me it is the chicken and egg issue. I can't do anything new until I empty the caches, and emptying the Inbox cache caused everything in there to disappear. I'm not so keen on losing all my appointments, contacts etc. So, thinking that a restart of Entourage could not do any harm, I did so. The second ugly error message comes up: 'Database Daemon fatal error' swell Oh, and as a sidebar, my iPhone, which is of course NOT running Entourage, DOES still see everything that was and should still be in the Inbox. Now, having restarted Entourage again, it seems to be retrieving the Inbox contents bit by bit. So, at the rate that it is going I'll wait a good while and hope that it is able to recover itself, hopefully. In exchanging emails with our tech support I am told that there are 'no problems at their end'. Many words come to mind to describe my feelings about this issue, but I'll keep them to myself. -- There is an answer to every problem, and a problem for every answer. -- YouTalk mailing list List information: http://www.entourage.mvps.org/support_options/list.html List moderator: [email protected], [email protected] To unsubscribe: mailto:[email protected]?subject=unsubscribe
