Yeh, we can try ... I thought about it a bit, but just went for the easiest thing. The problem is that we need to setup the arch. data _very_ early in yum. For instance cachedir is set to "/var/cache/yum/$basearch/$releasever" ... so we need to know what $basearch is before we open "yum.conf". Probably the "best" way to fix this is still setup $basearch early, but delay "the setup" of anything else that's arch. related until much later.
